September 1, 2007 - Scruffy the Puppy

Today Scruffy was really like a puppy. He chewed up things and got things he wasn’t supposed to. He got dirt out of the tree in our house (editor’s note: fake moss in a fake plant). He got the newspaper and chewed it up. He got the poop bag when we were outside and ran around with it.

We took him for a walk in the morning and then we are going to take him for a walk after I get finished with this blog post.
Here is a picture of the three of us laying down in the yard.

Hi Abby:

Sounds like Scruffy is a very frisky puppy. I laughed when I read about him running around with the poop bag!

Did he like sleeping in your room?

My cats like to get into things in my house too. I have to make sure that I don't leave any plastic grocery bags out--they like to stick their heads in them and sometimes they get stuck in the bag if they put their head through the hole for the handle.

Then it scares them because they try to run and get away from the bag! I have to catch them and get the bag off.

Hey, Abby--

Now you know that dogs require a lot of attention, both in caring for their needs and in keeping them out of trouble. It's certainly good experience for you to be taking care of Scruffy for a few days. And I'm sure it will be lots of fun, too.

Some day I'll have to tell you about my dog "Peanuts." She went with me to all the Boy Scout meetings, hikes, and camping trips. And she was known throughout our town as the dog who rode in the basket on the front of my bicycle. When I was in the 6th or 7th grade, she went to school with me and performed in a class play.

Enjoy your long weekend with Scruffy. I hope he doesn't snore and keep you awake at night.

Dear Abby,

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your blog. Scruffy sounds like quite a handful! My family has 3 dogs, but they are older and quieter.

I am a teacher in Virginia and our students will be returning to school on Tuesday so I am excited. It is no fun until the students come back.

I hope your school year is going well so far.

Hi Abby,

Wow! You sure have been busy being a 'dog' sitter. It can be a lot of work, but it is also fun! What is your favorite thing about Scruffy? We have two dogs...I'm sure you remember me talking about them in class. Their names are Jake and Artemis. Artemis is named after a Greek Goddess. They are so much fun, but they are VERY spoiled!

See you on Tuesday!
