The Great Gatsby Chapter 9

"I found myself Gatsby's side and alone"(Page 164). I think that Nick feel that Gatsby needs his help now because Gatsby has helped him so much. "Mr. Gatsby's dead" (Page 166). I think that it interesting that is how they tell us that Gatsby is dead. "I didn't know how to reach you"( Page 167). That is interesting because I think that they are all nervous. "But I know he's there" (Page 170). That is interesting because he has to try so hard because nobody believes him that Gatsby is the one that he is representing. "You were his closest friend, so I know you'll come to his funeral this afternoon." (Page 171). Why would Mr. Wolfsheim do that? "It just shows you"(Page 173). I am not sure what he is looking for still because what does it really show you? "Daisy hadn't sent a message a flower" (Page 174). So does Daisy still not know what Wilson did to Gatsby or is she with Tom now? "After Gatsby's death the East was haunted for me like that, distorted beyond my eyes' power of correction" (Page 176). That is interesting that he wants to leave because all it is bad memories now. "I told him the truth" (Page 178). I find interesting that he is so frustrated when Gatsby is out of the picture now. "Gatsby believed in that green light" (Page 180). Now that light was out.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 8

"Go away old sport"(Page 148). I think that part of is that he can't leave Daisy and that he can't leave because he is in love with her and he would do anything for her. "What was the use of doing great things if I could have a better time telling her what I was going to do?"(Page 150).  I feel as though he feels guilty because of that. "She wanted her life shaped now"(Page 151). I think that she was desperate and need something then and Tom was the one that could give it to her at that time. "I don't think she ever loved him"(Page 152). I find that very interesting because he wants her very badly now. "You're worth the whole damn bunch put together" (Page 154). That is a interesting compliment that you would not just give anybody. "I've left Daisy's house"(Page 155). I think that Jordan need to get out because of what she and Nick had to watch between Daisy and Tom and Gatsby. "He murdered her"(Page 158). I think that George thinks that it is Tom. "So by that time he knew Gatsby's name" (Page 160). I find that interesting that he is waiting and searching for Gatsby. "But they knew then, I firmly believe" (Page 161). I find that a little weird that they make us assume what happened at the end of this chapter.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 7

"It was when curiosity about Gatsby was at its highest that the lights failed to go on one Saturday night"(Page 113). That is interesting because that shows that a light just went on in his head as well in the house. "Daisy comes over quite often in the afternoon" (Page 114). That is weird because now she really does impress him and she likes him a lot. "That that's Tom's girl on the telephone." (Page 116). So now we find out that Tom has more then one affair. "She had told him that she loved him, and Tom Buchanan saw"(Page 119). That doesn't sound like it is going to end well for Daisy or Gatsby. "The suggestion was distasteful to Gatsby" (Page 121). That is weird because that is not something that we would do in today's time. "Daisy invited him; she knew him before we were married-God knows where!"(Page 122). That is so interesting and now Tom is really upset with everyone because of Daisy's affairs. "In the sunlight his face was green."(Page 123). That is very interesting because green is anger. "Over the ash heaps the giant eyes of Doctor T.J Ecklebug kept their vigil, but I perceived, after a moment, that other eyes were regarding us with peculiar intensity from less than twenty feet away."(Page 124). That is interesting because the eyes are still watching them. "The day after he left Daddy died"(Page 127). That is interesting and gives us information on Jordan and what she shares. "I only stayed five months"(Page 129). That like Fitzgerald. "Your wife doesn't love you"(Page 130). That is a weird way to just come out and say that. "Once in a while I go off on a spree and make a fool of myself, but I always come back, and in my heart I lover all the time" (Page 131). That is a very weird thing to say when you want your wife to stay with you. "He looked-and this is said in all contempt for the babbled saner of his garden- as if he had "killed a man"(Page 134). That is weird because he is more observant than ever. "death car"(Page 137). That is so sad that it has to happen that way for the wife to die. "It was a yellow car"(Page 139). Was it Gatsby's car? "In a little while I heard a low husky sob, and saw that the tears were overflowing down his face"(Page 141). Tom has feeling now and he feel really bad for Mr. Wilson. "I could think of nothing except the luminosity of his pink suit under the moon"(Page 142). That is more weird that Gatsby is wearing pink. "Was Daisy driving?"(Page 143). So Daisy took Mrs. Wilson's life. "So I left him there in the moon light"(Page 145). Is that what is in the cover in the eyes?

The Great Gatsby Chapter 6

"Gatsby's notoriety, spread about by the hundreds who had accepted his hospitality and so become authorities upon his past"(Page 97). That is kinda like Fitzgerald life. "A few days later he took him to Duluth and bought him a blue coat, six pairs of whit duck trousers and a yachting cap"(Page 100). That is interesting that the colors are represented in that way. "But I felt an unpleasantness in the air, a pervading harshness that hadn't been before."(Page 104). I find that interesting because he is very observant. "Daisy and Gatsby danced"(Page 105). That seems like Fitzgerald. "Sometimes a shadow moved against a dressing room blind above, gave way to another shadow, an indefinite procession of shadows, that rouged and powdered in an invisible glass." (Page 107). The shadows are getting less and more visible because they are figuring stuff out. "He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she should go to Tom and say: I never loved you."(Page 109). So Gatsby is trying to impress Daisy. "At his lips' touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete. (Page 111). That is so interesting that Gatsby did impress Daisy that he came back.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 5

"Turning a corner, I saw that it was Gatsby's house, lit from tower to cellar"(Page 81). That is very interesting because what significant would the light hold? "It happens to be a rather confidential thing"(Page 83). Does that mean that Gatsby is still not sure what he wants to trust Nick with? "She turned her head as there was a light dignified knocking at the front door"(Page 86). That light is like the hope for him I think. "Daisy's embarrassed too."(Page 87). Nick does notice a lot of things about people and things. "But I lost most of it in the big panic-the panic of the war"(Page 90). So what did he spend it all on? "His bedroom was the simplest room of all- except where the dresser was garnished with a toilet set of pure dull gold" (Page 91). I think that is interesting because that is describing the color that Gatsby is associated with. "You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock"(Page 92). That green light says that Gatsby can observe what he wants to. "The gray window disappeared as the house glowed full of light"(Page 94). That seems interesting because it is showing that there is hope coming for them.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 4

"But I can still read the gray names"(Page 61). I think that the gray area is very important in this book. "Benny McClenahan arrived always with for girls"(Page 63). I feel that is kinda like Fitzgerald affairs."I had talked with him perhaps six times in the past month and found, to my disappointment, he had said very little"(Page 64). That is answering why Nick doesn't talk much. "My family all died and I came into a good deal of money"(Page 65). That explains his big house. "Then came the war, old sport. "It was a great relief, and I tried very hard to die." (Page 66). That is interesting because he didn't want to live. "I hadn't asked Jordan to tea in order to discuss Mr. Jay Gatsby"(Page 67). Gatsby has a weird way of doing things. "Then the valley of ashes opened out on both sides of us"(Page 68). That is going to become a big part of the book I think. "There was the smile again but his time I held out against it."(Page 71). I find that interesting is he going to try to figure out what the smile means. "Yeah, Gatsby very careful about women"(Page 72). That is definitely not like Fitzgerald. "I turned toward Mr. Gatsby, but he was no longer there"(Page 74). Where would he go to get away from Tom Buchanan? "It's a great advantage not to drink among hard-drinking people"(Page 77). That is very interesting because that is kinda like Fitzgerald. "He wants her to see his house"(Page 79). That is so interesting and kinda freaky.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 3

"Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all"(Page 41). That is weird is his house just open? "I haven't even seen the host"(Page 47). That is interesting that he doesn't know what Gatsby looks like. "A din background started to take shape behind him, but at her next remark it faded away"(Page 49). That is very interesting because that is a weird description from Chapter 2 too."I wonder if he fact that he was not drinking helped set him off from his guests"(Page 50). Why is he not drinking is he just observing? "Most of the remaining women were now having fights with men said to be their husbands"(Page 51). That is a weird way to end the party. "I wasn't even trying"(Page 54). Why would they put that in there saying that he was not even trying? "I see I have given the impression that the events of three nights several weeks apart were all that absorbed me"(Page 55). He is starting to explain about his life. "She was incurably dishonest" (Page 58). That is weird because it seems like is observing like Gatsby.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 2

"The eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg are blue and gigantic -- their retinas are one yard high"(Page 23). That is interesting to me because that is very descriptive and it could be what the eyes are on the cover. "But his eyes, dimmed a little by many paint less days under sun and rain, brood on over the solemn dumping ground"(Page 24). That is relating to what you can see and why he feel that way. "The only car visible was the dust-covered wreck Ford"(Page 25). I find that very dark and ashes."The man peered doubtfully into the basket, plunged in his hand and drew one up, wriggling, by the back of the neck"(Page 27). that is a very weird way to hold a dog/puppy. "The apartment was on the top floor- a small living room, a small dining- room, a small bedroom, and a bath"(Page 29). Why do they describe the apartment that way? "She lived with a girl friend at a hotel"(Page 30). Are you allowed to live in a hotel full time? "Creaking pivot through the smoky air"(Page 31). That sounds a little like the eyes. " I wouldn't think of changing the light"(Page 31). It seems like the apartment is always dark."Well they say he's a nephew or a cousin of Kaiser Wilhelm's"(Page 32). Will we learn about how she got her information form that?

The Great Gatsby Cover

I see eyes with a person inside of it. The eyes are in made of a human I guess losing their mind and imagination and seeing people though the eyes.
The red lips are that splash of light in his life.
The bottom is how many times he though he was on the right track and then it blew up in his face.
Explosion and Imagination because sometimes when you use your imagination you think that it is going to be great and then something happens and it ends up being an explosion.

The green light on the cover is a big part of the book because it is present all the time when Nick is with Gatsby.

Does the American Dream end up exploding before you feel that you are really living it? I think it does because you try so hard to do what you think is the American Dream and it blows up in your face before you can succeed.

Reflection On The Color of Water Chapters 24,25,Epologue

"I never knew how suck he was"(254). I feel like that is a huge part in why it is so hard for her to give up the church because so many things don't go her way and she wants to b the one that takes responsibility for it and she can't. "It took many years to find our who she was partly because I never knew who I was"(261). You can figure out who you are but if you can't do that and you trying to help someone else it is so though to do. "I had to find out more about who I was, and in order to find out who I was, I had to find out who my mother was"(266). I think when he is finding himself he is also finding out how his mom was raised too." My own life was rebuilt"(270). I find that very interesting because the more he finds out about his mom the more he really understands his life. "After the trip, she and Frances picked up where their high school friendship left off and remain close today"(274). He helped his mom face her past than run away from it."Mommy has created her own nation"(277). It all started because she left her life behind to make a better life for her kids and that is what he is finding out.

Reflection of Color of Water Chapters 21, 22, 23

"Don't come back"(215). I think her dad just doesn't know how to handle things when they are different and he doesn't agree with them. It is kinda like a bird who gets its wings and flies away and never comes back to the nest. "He told me Mameh had just passed away"(216). It is hard for her to lose someone and she has never tried to hurt anyone. "The Jew in me was dying anyway, but truly died when my mother died"(218). I feel like that was finally when she started to notice that she could be the person she always wanted to be. "Everything she had known was gone"(221). I feel that it was interesting because he is trying to figure out more about his mothers childhood they really know nothing." The tape is running"(227). I feel like he was doing that so that he could get his mom the help that she needed. "I'll still be your mother when you come back"(232). That is something that a mom would really say that she really cares."I accepted Jesus that day and He has never let me down form that day to this"(235). I find that interesting that she would do that and leaver her life all the way behind her. "He got worse and worse, and during this time I missed my period"(242). I feel that it was a very stressful time in her life and also to now think that she has another kid on the way the is not fun at all. "Part of me died when Dennis died"(244). She had to figure out how to go in it alone and try to raise her kids by herself.

Reflection Color of Water 18,19,20

"She hates the South"(180). I feel like she hates the south more because she feels that her kids really don't fit in with segregation."Yet she wanted me to go"(189). She wants her kids to have a better life than what she is able to give them right now. "This was no joking matter for them"(195). He was very loyal to her and made her feel better about everything. "He was serious about his money"(198). I think that he was nervous that they would take his money. "Racism is a problem that should end just about the time we graduate"(204). It sill goes on today but not at that level. "The whole family is long gone"(210). I feel like they all left because they couldn't really see what was actually going on inside closed doors.

Reflection on Color of Water Chapters 15,16,17

"We can't see each other anymore"(153). I think was pretty angry about what was happening and she felt betrayed. "I'm going to the ceremony"(157). I think that she is finally realizing that after she graduates she doesn't have to deal with her parents anymore. "Get away from me!"(164). I feel like she snapping because she is losing what drives her everyday to keep moving forward. "I'll never learn to drive"(167). I think that is also something that happened to her she doesn't want to be seen driving. "Not just for me, but for anyone"(171). I feel like she is finally starting to realize that there is someone out there for her.

Reflection Color of Water Chapters 12,13,14

"He married her and made the baseball team his own, adding four more kids to make it twelve"(118). I think that it is interesting because I always feel that I am missing something. "Daddy's favorite was Walter, the most fun-loving and gregarious of his brothers"(121).  That is really interesting to me because he refers to them as by their first names not uncle so maybe he doesn't see them as uncles he just sees Hunter Jordan as dad. "He'd had a stoke"(126). That shocks me because was it the stress of not being able to be in Brooklyn or what. It would be hard for you to come back from and that is how he died. "My mother knew I was pregnant and in trouble"(129). Sometimes you need someone to help you and they just can't. " She made a few phone calls,  found a Jewish doctor in Manhattan , and took me to his office where I had an abortion"(134). I feel like that symbolizes to that is starting really let go of her past." I failed everything"(138). I think that day was hard for him because needed a dad figure in his life and he just didn't have it anymore."I was numb"(141). That is interesting he is kinda going though the same things that his mom did at his age."I can't forget it"(149). Chicken man is giving him advise that he wishes he would have taken when he was James age.

Introduction to My Ressiance Little Project

What is this video?
This was an end of the unit assignment on the Harlem Ressiance.
What do you want people to know before they watch it?
I want you to know that I made a poem that was inspired by Langston Hughes "I Too"
What do you want people to focus on as they watch it?
I want you to focus on the pictures and people are all the same.
What do you hope people will gain from your video?
I think that people will learn that you are really the person you want to be, not just stereotyping.

Reflection on Color of Water Chapters 9,10, 11

" Folks where pour and starving."(83) I can relate to that because you lose prospective when things are just good all the time. "It was her sense of education, more than any other that Mommy conveyed her Jewishness to us"(87). He feel that he is learning how his mom liked to grow and how his mom was treated because that is what she does to her kids. "By the age of twelve, i was traveling an hour and a half one way to junior high school by myself, taking two buses each direction every day"(89). I feel that his mom wanted the best for her children so she would do what ever it takes to get them there. "Yet I myself had no idea who I was"(91). I feel like it is very confusing when you don't have anybody that you can trust and are there for you all the time. "In the summer she was the Pied Piper, leading the whole pack of us to public swimming pools, stripping down to her one-piece bating suit and plunging into the water like a walrus, the rest of us following her like seals, splashing and gurgling in terror behind her as Mommy flailed along, seemingly barely able to sim herself."(95). She still wanted to giver all her kids life skills that they needed. "I grew secretive, cautious, passive, angry and fearful always"(100). I feel that he feels that she is not really his mom because of how much they don't look like each other and it is hard for him to understand. "Now as a grown black man, I feel privileged to have come from two worlds"(103). I feel like that must be so hard and he trying to make sense of it as he goes because he doesn't have anybody to talk to.  "Then after a while my period was late. By a week. Then another two weeks. Then it never came" (112). I find that as way that she was telling the world that she didn't like how she was being treated anymore so she was doing something about it.

Reflection of Chapter 6,7,8

"I'm crying because I am happy" (50). I wonder if she did a lot things that her kids though was weird but also I think it is hard that she has lost two husbands as well and that got is one of the only things left. "God is the color of water."(51) I think that she is saying that he needs to figure out the color of water before he can figure out who God is. " When we got home, Mommy beat Billy's butt."(55) That is probably because she wants him to know how much god sacrificed for him. "That was the Klu Klux Klan riding though"(58) That is interesting to me because of how they acted about black people. "He trusted no one"(59). That is important because he didn't even trust his daughters. "Sam was his main target"(62). I get why she didn't like being a part of that family it doesn't seem fun at all."Not too long afterwards, the dean of Music and Art called our house and asked Ma why Helen was quitting school"(72). I feel that she was tired of the expectation for her. "She's not coming home Ma"(77). I think that they are all a little tired of trying to do anything with all 12 of them trying to run the house.

Reflection on Color of Water Chapter 2,3,4,5

"He was seventy-two when he died" (5) I think that he is sad because that is pretty young for him to die. He seem like he treats all the kids as his own.

"I always thought of him as Daddy"(6) He feels close to his step dad. His stepdad was the dad that he really knew because his mom got married when he was still less than a year old.

"I virtually dropped out of high school after he died, failing every class."(6)
It is tough when you lose a parent to keep going and feeling like you are still doing the right thing. I get it.

"She war commander and chief of my house, because my stepfather did not live with us.(9)That seem like a very stressful life having 12 kids and no one to help you. You are also very private so that makes it seem even more distant

"Me and Mommy alone"(11)
I think that is one memory that he holds onto because that is one of the only times he gets to be alone with his mom.

"My little sister Kathy who trailed behind them"(14)
They were all older than he was so he was scared and they would make fun of him because of that.

“I held you and your brother in my arms as I ran”(16) Her mom was not exactly sure what was coming but she knew that it was scary and she was not exactly sure what was going to happen.

"I was a runner"(17) That is probably why she rides her bike everywhere instead of driving a car.

"You obeyed, period"(18) That is why she told James that he just needed to listen to her and do what she told him to do.

"Yet Mommy refused to acknowledge her whiteness."(23)I think that a big part of that for her is that she didn’t know how to answer that question. She married men with black skin so that is why her children don’t look like her.

"Our favorite as a gleaming black, souped-up GTO with the words “Black Power” written in smooth white script across the hood and top"(26)  That is interesting is that car just black or is the driver also black?

"Get your butt inside before dark" (28)
I think he was testing. He wanted to see if his mom would do  she said she would do. I think that he also was pretty mad when they didn’t follow her rules like her parent would be with her.

"He always made sure his kids never got into trouble, was concerned about money, and trusted the providence of the Holy Father to do the rest."(29)
I think that he misses having a dad around because he wants some of that parenting that is not just telling him that he is doing everything wrong.

"She viewed the civil rights achievements of black Americans with pride, as if they were her own."(32)
I think that it is part of what she wanted and part of doing what is right not what you want. She did a lot of that leaving her family marrying a black man she did a lot and she wants to be proud of what she did.

"My parents didn’t have the warm relations that most parents had."(41)
That is part of why I think that she parents her kids like she does.

"My father did things to me that I can’t tell anyone about."(42)

She was trying to make up what she didn’t have in her past but she was really stick to her kids.

Reflection On Chapter 1 of Color of Water

I'm dead. What does that mean for him. Does he miss his mom. They want no parts of me and I don't want no parts of them so that mean that she wants to live in peace sometime I feel the same way because when you look at me I don't want to talk most the time. Like go interview my father. She is very irritated and wants to do something else. I was born on April Fools Day 1921 in Poland. That is a weird day to be born and still not be alive my grandparents are the old and they are still living today. She had to die for the rest of me to live that is like cancer where they have to make it die or it will attack the whole body. When I married your father they didn't approve of it they thought that you could do better. Why when someone makes you so happy why do they then go and tell you can't do that. He was as hard as a rock so nothing got to him and he would stay strong for his family. She had polio so that must make it really hard on her because she feels like she is not strong.

I Too

I too am trying to find myself my dreams. What do you want to be in your life? I love so many things how do I choose one? When you find something that you love you should go after it. Money doesn't matter what matters is that you are happy. You will find someone who is happy that you are you. Their is someone out there for you. You need to find people along the way that you want to be like. You strive to be like them. When you don't have that look harder. Try to better yourself even if nobody can help you. You are the only person who is the only one that sands in the way. Don't laugh at people who are different and you think that is weird. Please don't judge people because they are not as smart as you do. Find that balance between your brain.
