- Bermuda was first settled in 1609 by shipwrecked English colonists headed for Virginia.
- It is about one-third the size of Washington, DC.
- The weather is mild and humid with strong winds common in winter.
- Bermuda can have hurricanes that are really devastating.They have had 2 really devastating ones in the last 30 years.
- They get all their water from the roofs of their houses when it rains. The water is stored in tanks until they need to use the water.
- They play lots of soccer and the girls play a sport that they call netball. It is like basketball without the backboard.
- They are only allowed to have one car per house.
- The mostly speak English (official) and 20 to 30% speak Portuguese and some speak a different language.
- They eat a lot of fresh fish. A favorite meal is fish cakes, potatoes and bananas.
- About 70,000 people live in Bermuda. Bermuda is about 24 miles long. Hamilton is the capital.
