Please Help Me with My Travel Journal

I’m doing something for my homework which is a travel journal. It is this journal we send it out to somebody that you know in another state and they get it and send a postcard back to us. And they have to write an article about where they live in the journal and then send it off to another person. At the end in April, the journal gets sent back to me.

My Teacher Next Year

I know who my teacher is going to be when I am in third grade. It is Ms. Marci. She was my first grade teacher. Third grade is going to be out in the mobiles next year. Ms. Marci is a great teacher. All the teachers are the best.

Camp Shady Brook Trip

I went to Camp Shady Brook with both second grade crews (Miss Hanni’s and Miss Sarah’s crew), and my Dad did too. In my group there was Elena, Sarah, Grace, Anna, Sophia, Megan and me. My leader was Miss Tricia. We were supposed to sleep in tents but it was going to be too cold outside so we had to sleep in cabins. We got to the camp around 12:00 pm, then we had lunch. After lunch we put our stuff in the cabins and then we went on a hike. The hike that we went on was pretty hard because there were really steep hills. We ate dinner in the dining hall – they made the dinner for us. One of the boys in Miss Sarah’s class had a birthday so he got to kiss the moose. We had a campfire in the lodge and we sang some silly songs. Then we went to bed.

On the second day we got up, had breakfast, then we went on a challenge hike. The weather was kind of weird because it snowed, hailed, rained and was sunny on the challenge hike. In the afternoon of the second day we did rock climbing, a low ropes course, and we had solitude and reflection time. We helped the camp by picking up some wood chips because they were doing some construction there. We tried to help out the camp because the camp had been so nice to us. After we ate dinner we went back to our cabins to get on our warm gear and go to the campfire outside. We sang some more silly songs. One of my favorite songs was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and another of my favorite’s was Rock the Boat. Then we went back to our cabins to sleep.

On the third day we went to breakfast, we had a little hike, and then we packed up and went back to school. When we got back to school we had lunch, then we went out for recess, and then did solitude and reflection.

My Expedition about the Human Body

An expedition is at school when you learn about a topic. A human body needs a little bit of fat because fat can move vitamins where they need to go. You should not have too much fat. You need protein and I’ll list foods that have protein in them: meat, milk, and cheese. I’ll name some of the calcium things: milk and cheese. Now I will name some of the healthy foods and not so healthy foods. Here is an example of healthy: apples, oranges, grapes, broccoli, carrots, avocado, lettuce, milk, cheese, and turkey. And now I will name some unhealthy foods: potato chips, pizza, candy, chocolate, and soft drinks.

September 9, 2007 - Camp Jackson

I went to Camp Jackson on Thursday and Friday. My Dad came with me as a chaperone for the boys. It was a two-hour bus ride. As soon as we got there we got into our cabin groups and that’s also our activity groups. We had to go up a really, really big hill to get up to our cabins. I got to sleep on the bunk above Ms. Hanni.

After unpacking, all the grownups had to go into one room and all the kids had to go into another. Our leaders were Edd, Shane, Amy and Doug. They talked about their learning targets and how we should work together and that’s pretty much all. And then we did one group activity and went to lunch. If you put your elbows on the table then you had to run around the dining hall and everyone else sang, “Elbows, elbows on the table. This is not a horse’s stable. Back around the other way, other way, other way, back around the other way, you were naughty.”

After lunch we did some team building activities like standing on skinny pieces of logs and go to a big stick. We had one team but we split into two groups on separate logs. We started moving using Kaylee’s idea and that seemed to be working and the other team saw and that seemed to be working too. Another activity was in Jackson Lodge where we ran into a circle and we had the numbers 1 to 25 on paper plates in a circle. We had to run into the circle and step on one plate at a time and go in order from 1 to 25. But only one person was supposed to be in the circle at a time otherwise that would be a penalty. We were trying to do this as fast as possible. I had an idea to make a line outside of Jackson Lodge and then one person go in at a time and then everybody could get a turn if they wanted. My idea worked. We also did other team building activities.

We had a campfire at nighttime and everybody had to bring their flashlights so we could find our way back to our cabins. They played out stories and sang songs. You always know when a story or song is done because they sing “Rik. Tik. Rickety-Rik. Oompah. Oompah. Oy.” And then Edd says, “Louder!” And then all the kids sing it even louder. If he says louder again then lots of kids scream it.

We went on a hike through the woods. We stopped for two rests and we played two little games. The first game was asking our teachers questions about them. We were sitting in a circle and a teacher was in the middle and they each got 2 minutes for kids asking them questions about themselves. Then the second teacher got the same thing. The second game was we had to tell one lie and two true things about yourself and they had to raise their hands for which one they thought was a lie. My three were, “I ride a bus to school,” “I love baby dolls,” and “I like sports.” Riding a bus to school was a lie because my Mom works at my school now and I ride with her.

I like Camp Jackson.

August 27, 2007 - A Class Fish

Ms. Hanni got our class a fish over the weekend. We named him Fire Tiger Flower because we did a human graph. Fire had the most, which was 9. And then Tiger was 3. Then Flower was 2. The fish is reddish-orangish. His fins look like fire because they’re like floppy. William is our fish feeder, but we’re only supposed to give him a little bit of food each day. William is going to be the fish feeder for one week and then somebody else is going to be the fish feeder for the next week.

August 26, 2007 - Things I Like To Do In My Neighborhood

I made this picture of me and my friends playing because I really like to play with friends. This picture wasn’t an ordinary picture because those were things I like to do in my neighborhood. It was an assignment from my teacher (Ms. Hanni) and she hung it up by our cubbies in the hallway.

August 25, 2007 - Self Portrait

Here is my self-portrait. Even though I know my face isn’t gray and my teeth aren’t yellow, I just like to draw that way. This was also an assignment, too, and Ms. Hanni hung it up in the classroom.

August 14, 2007

I have my own toolkit in math. It is where I keep my supplies for math. There’s only three things in it right now. There’s my coins, my stencil thingies, and a clock. I use it for math to help me do my second grade math journal.

Math was about clocks today. Ms. Hanni did it on her clock and we did it on our clock. They are not real clocks, they are play clocks. We were practicing telling time. We had to try to figure out how to put the big hand and the little hand and if she nodded her head you got it right, and if she didn’t nod her head you got it wrong. Let’s say she says “eight-oh-five” and the kids have to do it on our clocks.

August 4, 2007

I’ve got a blood blister. I went to the doctor and we have to put special cream on it and take medicine three times a day and soak my foot. I think I got it because of my shoe rubbing and it really hurt so I had to put an ice pack on it but that didn’t help – nothing helped. The purple marker in the picture is around the edge of where the swelling was.

On Thursday I went in the air castle in Camelot – Camelot is my daycare. We couldn’t do tricks in the air castle and only five kids at a time could be in the air castle. We just jumped and played corner crashing.

I met my teacher on Thursday and her name is Ms. Hanni. This was a conference for me to get to know Ms. Hanni and some other kids. I had to find my supplies – it was kind of like a scavenger hunt, and I had to draw a picture of what I like to do in my neighborhood. Ms. Hanni read us a book about crayons. The crayons were being mean to each other and weren’t being nice. But then all the colors started to like each other and said that if they couldn’t work together we couldn’t do a very good job. That’s like being crew, not passengers.

My school starts on Monday and I feel good about it.

July 13, 2007

I already know something about school this year. Miss Hanni is my teacher this year at Renaissance. And my Mom is working at my school as a first grade teacher so that we will ride together every day until we get out of school.

I think Miss Hanni is going to be really cool because she is one of my best teachers I think. I really like Miss Hanni even though I don’t know much about her – I just really like her for some reason. I know Miss Hanni a little bit already because sometimes our classes did things together last year. We studied pioneers together and we watched a movie about Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Miss MaKayla is my Mom’s teammate at school – they teach first grade together. I might be helping her sometimes after school after I get my homework done.
